  BETWEEN POHORJE AND HALOZE

The town of Slovenska Bistrica can be a starting point for different trips. From here you can go through Bistriski Vintgar or follow many other paths of Pohorje and enjoy this green world, walk to Crno Jezero, visit idyllic villages of Pohorje, see the unique grey-green stone cizlakit. Archeology admirers will benefit from visiting Ancnikovo gradisce in Jurisna village.

The world under Haloze also hides many sights (Studenice cloister, Statenberg castle, Boc...), waiting to be found. Inhabitants of these places, eager cultural advocates, will always prepare a surprise for you - be it dance or music-like or the golden-yellow one in a glass that will strengthen your "body and soul'.
The whole area is very diverse and therefore ideal for sport and recreational activities as cycling, running in the nature, hiking and skiing in winter. Hunting and fishing admirers, and lately also sport shooting enthusiasts come into their own.
In vineyards, stretching from the hillsides of Pohorje to hilly world along Loznica and famous Haloze domestic winegrowers produce excellent wines which achieve high results and get awarded and are also praised abroad.

In places where vintage vines are at home, where we preserve with seriousness and respect what our grandfathers left us you will always meet kind people. You will be welcomed among us and we will make certain that the landscape between Pohorje and Haloze remains in nice memory.

Monuments of natural and cultural heritage you should visit

SLOVENSKA BISTRICA CASTLE - Central town and municipality cultural center, magnificently spreading alongside the town center. It is an exceptional example of large castles in Slovenia. From a classic caste fort with walls it became a large baroque manor through numerous re-buildings. Interior equipment of the caste, paintings and baroque division of the front tell us that the owners were important in Slovenian places. Family Attems owned the caste from 1717 to 1945. Cultural activities and different permanent exhibitions take place in its extensive area.

ŠTATENBERG CASTLE - Among the most beautiful baroque creations in our places, which is magnificently placed above hills of Dravinja. In it architecture, painting and plastic shaping are equally boasting.

ČRNO JEZERO (The black lake) ON POHORJE - For the needs of water accumulation when getting wood to the valley, count Windischgraetz artificially diked a basin with a dam 120 years ago. Today, the lake is foremost a natural monument and at the same time first-class home of different birds.

BISTRIŠKI VINTGAR (Bistriški flume) - The gorge of the creek Bistrica, which is the most distinctive and picturesque between Močnik and Zgornja Bistrica. Due to different stones and vegetation it represents a very interesting tourist and educational hill path where one can also see the Roman quarry of white marble, the Sum cascade, the Stampoharjev mill...

STUDENICE CLOISTER - The most precious monument of romanica in Slovenian places. Rikica Kunsperska established a cloister for dominicans already in 1237. Its buildings together with the parish church of Sv. Trije Kralji are placed in the narrowest part of the valley of Topli potok (Warm creek). The creek is known for its even temperature throughout the year.

BOČ - You can reach it by many forest educational paths, pointing at sites of interesting vegetation. The most interesting among all is Pulsatilla (Eastern flower), growing around the little church of Sv. Miklavz. Its violet flowers open in early spring.
